Eight years after “Monk at Town Hall & More”, highly acclaimed by critics, LSO goes back to Monk’s world to remember the great genius of modern jazz on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of his death (1982-2012). The new repertoire contains all the magnificent ballads, as well as the famous masterpieces recorded at BlackHawk. Once again, Monk’s genius comes back to life as a contemporary classic, thanks also to the presence of Han Bennink & other special guests.

The legendary relationship between jazz and noir during the 20th century gave rise to this multimedia project featuring Rossana Casale and Franco Costantini. In “Bay City Blues” the audience can feel the special atmosphere of Raymond Chandler’s masterpieces: Rossana Casale plays a sophisticated lady and Franco Costantini plays Marlowe, the famous detective, but Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk’s music is the real star of the show.

A new, original re-interpretation of Charles Mingus’s masterpiece, featuring a special collaboration between the LSO and the Devil Quartet led by Paolo Fresu - one of the most acclaimed international trumpet players. On stage they will be performing a “concerto grosso” quite a kind of confrontation in the true Mingusian spirit.

Two large orchestras on stage, both sharing the same rhythm section, enjoy themselves in giving spectators an unforgettable night, playing the great Mingus songs: Tensions, Fables of Faubus, Baby Take a Chance With Me, Boogie Stop Shuffle, Sue’s Changes, Goodbye Pork Pie Hat, GG Train, Haitian Fight Song, just to name a few.

from pre-jazz and classic jazz (Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington)
to modern jazz (Parker, Monk, Tristano, Coltrane, Ornette, Miles, Shorter).
- For particular events, LSO is available for open rehearsals.
- LSO’s musicians are also personally available for small combo bookings,
from solo and duo to sextet.
- All of LSO’s musicians teach music in Conservatoriums both in Italy and
overseas, and they are also available for internships and seminars.
